A complete guide to the story so far, setting the stage for the Showmax Original Season 2 return.
Many moons ago, the first stories of love and lust were recorded in the sands of time... and with Chetaβm, James Omokwe invites us into a world filled with epic drama, forbidden romance, and power struggles. If youβve been a fan of Nigerian epic dramas like Diiche, Itura, Riona, and Ajoche, then you know Omokweβs knack for crafting unforgettable stories. With Chetaβm, he delivers yet another masterpiece.
The first season of Chetaβm, a Showmax original, concluded in 2024 after 60 gripping episodes released over 20 weeks. Now, with the second season already underway, thereβs no better time to dive back into this rich, sprawling taleβor start fresh if youβre new. Letβs take a walk through the sands of Mgberi and Ajaaniβs communal clash to revisit a love story so epic.
The Premise
At its heart, Chetaβm is the story of Nnanna (Kingsley Nwachukwu) and Adanna (Oluchi Amajuoyi), two lovers whose bond transcends time, space, and, as weβre hoping, powerful magic. The show explores this against the backdrop of the brewing communal war between two kingdoms, Mgberi and Ajaani. On one side, we have the mild-mannered Nze Ezeugo of Mgberi (Nonso Odogwu), who is caught in the web of his own household drama. On the other, we meet King Jideofor of Ajaani (Kalu Ikeagwu), a boastful and fierce ruler with ambitions that threaten to engulf Mgberi in chaos.
This story isnβt just about kingdoms or wars. Itβs about love, betrayal, magic, and the timeless human struggle for freedom and justice.
Key Characters
Adanna (Played by Oluchi Amajuoyi)
Adanna is a kind and beautiful maiden from Mgberi, known for her naivety and spiritual foresight. Sheβs the daughter of Ichie Nwoke, a close ally of Ezeugo, and Akunna, one of the Umuada leaders. Her closest friendsβMmesoma (Ruby Okezie), Azubuike (Ichie Fuego), Nwoye (Nnamdi Agbo), and Nnannaβform a complicated web of unrequited love. While everyone else is caught in one-sided romances, Adanna and Nnanna share a rare, mutual connection.
But their love faces challenges. On their wedding day, Ojigijaga (Jsmile Uhuru), Mgberiβs scheming chief priest, claims Adanna for himself under the guise of the godsβ will. This event sets off a chain of rebellion, escape, and tragedy, leaving Adanna marked as an outcast in her community. Powerful magic erases all memory of Nnanna, even from Adannaβs mind, leaving her pregnant and alone in a world that no longer remembers the man she loves.
Nnanna (Played by Kingsley Nwachukwu)
Nnannaβs journey takes him to Ajaani, where he becomes a trusted commander in King Jideoforβs army. Despite his amnesia, dreams of a mysterious woman with waist beads haunt him, hinting at his lost connection to Adanna.
In Ajaani, we meet Jideoforβs household: Queen Mkpulumma (Ugonna Okore), a witch with her own hidden agenda, and their daughter Ahunna (Oluchi Odii), a strong-willed princess whose budding powers and arranged marriage spark chaos. Nnanna rises through the ranks while grappling with memories he cannot place, setting the stage for a fateful reunion with Adanna during a mission to Mgberi.
When their paths cross, the chemistry is electrifyingβa moment where destiny, or perhaps something even more powerful, seems to intervene.
Why Chetaβm Is Prestige TV
